DPL Nuve BLUE Light Therapy Introduction and Review

For some time now we have carried and and been using the DPL (Deep Penetrating Light) Nuve hand held light therapy device.  We were thrilled last month to hear that the same company is introducing the DPL Nuve Blue, specifically for acne treatment.  Since 85% of people between the ages of 12 to 24 will suffer an acne outbreak, this is a product that is much anticipated and very exciting.

Overview of the DPL Nuve Blue

DPL Nuve Blue Light Therapy For Acne Skin ConditionLike it’s older sibling, the DPL Nuve, the Nuve Blue is a hand held device that treats 4 square inches with light generated from LEDs.  It is in the same hand held package as the DPL and comes complete with a user guide, goggles, and a travel bag/pouch.  The new unit has 60 blue LED operating at a wavelength of 415nm.  The technology is has FDA clearance for the treatment of mild to moderate acne, and we have previously found that light therapy is one of the most effective anti-acne treatments available and is without the side effects associated with prescription acne medications.

Using the DPL Nuve Light Therapy Device for treatment of acneI gave a unit to my oldest daughter who is just getting to the age where acne becomes a problem.  Honestly, it’s still an issue in our house to get her to shower and wash her face on a daily basis, but she agreed to use the Nuve Blue on a daily basis as directed by the instructions (2x per day for 3 minutes).  It has only been a week, so it is too early to give a results report, but in terms of usability, the unit is extremely convenient and easy to use.  Just put on the included goggles, place against the effected area and turn it on.  I will update this post in a month or so with her results.  Maybe I’ll see if she can write it herself.

How the Blue Light Treats Acne

Using the DPL Nuve Blue on the forehead for acneDon’t confuse blue light treatment with laser or heat energy acne therapy.  Treating with blue light reaches deep layers of the skin, but does not harm the skin surface.  On the contrary, some laser treatment can actually damage oil glands.

Blue light therapy destroys Propionibecterium acnes (P. acnes), which are the bacteria that causes acne.  The light is applied through a series of treatments.  Typically, multiple ongoing treatments are required because P. acnes bacteria multiplies quickly.  Blue light therapy can cause temporary redness and dryness of the skin where treated.

  2. I’m using a natural acne treatment in treating my acne. It effectively worked on me, it doesn’t only treat and clear acne but also it leaves my skin soft and smooth as new.

I’ve had my Nuve BLUE for about 7 months. I still can’t believe how well it works! Large flair ups of cystic acne disappear in just a few short days. If I use it consistently, I don’t get flair ups at all! Since it takes three minutes per area, “lighting” your whole face can take awhile. Thanks to my Nuve Blue I’ve been able to go off of oral antibiotics for my acne. Such a great product.

Hi Jeanette, sorry it has taken so long to respond to your question. I do not know which unit that you have, so it is hard to make a comment about it. I would suggest that you call or email customer service at the manufacturer’s office. Their customer service number is 1-800-337-9565 and their email is customerservice@ledtechnologies.com. Good luck!
